The behavior and lifestyle of gorillas
were found to be interesting as revealed by Diane
Fossey (Author of Gorillas in the mist). She dispelled
that these creatures are very intelligent, almost
like humans,
Sociable, shy and aggressive when it comes to defense.
Bwindi impenetrable forest and the volcanic
Virunga Mountains that straddle the boarder of Uganda
and Rwanda are the only conservation habitats other
World’s mountain gorillas.
The Virunga Mountains host the Mgahinga N.P in Uganda,
Volcanoes N.P in Rwanda and Virunga N.P in Congo (DRC).
Gorilla trekking in these conserved areas is made
possible by use of Gorilla permits and then the trekkers
are assigned groups.
In Uganda, Mgahinga and Bwindi impenetrable; the gorilla safari trekking groups are assigned at the time of buying tracking permits; whereas in Volcanoes N.P (Rwanda), groups are assigned on the day of trekking by the authorities.
Before the gorilla trekking activity
starts, game rangers give mini-lectures about gorilla
rules, clearly outlining the Do's and Don’ts,
general information about the environment and the
whole activity of a guided nature walk.
Trekking rules are set as a cornerstone in the conservation
of gorillas so as to prevent behavior disturbance
and stress to the gorillas by frequent visitors/trekkers.
