The last 2 weeks in Oz were fairly relaxing. I stopped in Port Macquarie for a couple nights... just for ol' time's sake! Not much had changed. Then off to Sydney for the last week. Despite a cloudy morning, I was able to lie on the beach one last time basking in the warmth trying to keep it all inside for those cold, snowy days looming ahead of me.
A highlight of those last few days was meeting up with some guys I know from home: Kyle, Nathan & Jared. They graciously offered me their couch, and helped me celebrate my last night in Oz before flying home. And so with souveniers bought & packed, worn-out clothes & shoes discarded, I boareded the plane headed home!
Of course since teleportation has yet to be perfected, the trip home took some time. The travel time included a 16hr, overnight stop in Japan. I entertained myself in the hotel room that evening by watching Japanese TV (very entertaining, even when you can't understand the language...) and getting caught up on the American news on CNN. As you can imagine, it was nice to sleep in a hotel that night, before the 12hr flight back to North America. It was wonderful to see my parents at the airport, and other family members in the following days. I've been home a week, and have been in contact with a few friends already as well. I'm finding it relatively easy to settle back in... so far! Perhaps a longing for the beach & warm weather will hit me soon?! It was an incredible year, not one that can be summed up in a few words. It's good to be back. And, like any traveller, I'm looking forward to the next travel adventure... when the bank account is in agreement!
Cheers!
B.
